Cyber-physical systems propagate more distributed computing strategies, more user interactions and a higher level of autonomous decision making by the systems themselves. Future automation systems will need to incorporate these new technologies allowing them to be more adaptable in order to react to changing requirements and to new product variants.
Such adaptable automation systems rely on more abstract models and therefore on new engineering approaches and an intelligent networking of the systems . In the future, one has to model domain and process knowledge (i.e. semantics) instead of hard-wired automation sequences. Such models are used e.g. for self configuration and self optimization. And in these adaptable systems, models are needed not only during the engineering phase but also at runtime.
This special session will focus on the following topics:
- Models for distributed automation
- Process and product models for industrial automation
- Engineering approaches for distributed and intelligent automation systems
- Usage of models at runtime, e.g. for optimization and diagnosis
- Process and system analysis
- Semantics for self configuration and self optimization
- Related communication aspects
